Dorset Wild Rivers
Dorset Wild Rivers is a partnership programme to improve the rivers of Dorset through in-river interventions, land management and community engagement. The programme is funded by the Wessex Water Foundation Partners Programme and the Environment Agency. The lead partners in the programme are Dorset Wildlife Trust, Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group South West (FWAG SW) and Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Dorset Wild Rivers adopts a catchment approach to deliver biodiversity enhancements that support multi-functional water environments, whilst partnering with local communities, land managers and the general public to ensure the solutions delivered are sustainable.
Dorset Wild Rivers aims to improve the following:
- Morphological function and ecological integrity within river systems,
- Implementation of sustainable catchment management through advice to farmers,
- Implementation of innovative strategies for nutrient and river management,
- Functionality of rivers and wetlands leading to enhanced delivery of multiple ecosystem services.
