Bourne Stream Partnership
The whole of the Bourne Stream's catchment lies within the BCP conurbation, running from nearby Bournemouth Water's drinking water treatment works at Alderney, through the Bourne Valley and Talbot Heath Nature Reserves, before flowing through Bournemouth's Central and Lower Gardens. Several sections of the river (and many of its tributaries) are culverted under Bournemouth's urban infrastructure. The Bourne discharges to the sea through a final culvert, near Bournemouth Pier.
After being dormant for a number of years, the Bourne Stream Partnership is now being reinvigorated with the support of Bournemouth Water. It is formally a sub-group of Dorset Catchment Partnerships, with strong ties to the existing Stour Delivery Group. Governance, workstreams and priorities are being established through a series of workshops, with the intention of creating a catchment plan in preparation for partnership-funded delivery work to begin in 2025.
